1 Peter 2

Dominique Young

Life doesn’t always feel fair. Whether it's injustice, hardship, or seasons of waiting, our natural instinct is to let our circumstances dictate our attitude, our hope, and even our obedience. But 1 Peter 2 reminds us that we follow Jesus—not our feelings, fears, or frustrations. Even in suffering, Christ remained faithful. He didn’t let the cruelty of the cross change His character or His mission—and neither should we.

Peter was writing to believers under pressure—mistreated, misunderstood, and marginalized. Yet his charge wasn’t to fight for control but to follow Christ's example. Our circumstances are not our master—Jesus is. Whether we are treated well or unfairly, whether we’re in comfort or crisis, we’re called to live with integrity, humility, and steadfast faith. Our situation may shift, but our Savior never does.

Prayer:

Jesus, thank You for showing me how to walk in faith regardless of my situation. Help me remember that You are Lord over my life, not my circumstances. Teach me to respond like You—patient, obedient, and full of trust in the Father. Strengthen me to follow You, even when it's hard. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. Are there any circumstances that feel like they are controlling your peace, purpose, or perspective?

2. How does Jesus' example of faithfulness in suffering encourage you today?

3. What is one choice you can make today to follow Jesus instead of reacting to your circumstances?
