1 Peter 4

Dominique Young

Faithfulness often costs us comfort. In 1 Peter 4, we’re reminded that following Jesus may mean saying “no” to our desires, our old habits, and even the approval of others. But Peter encourages us to take on the same mindset as Christ—willing to suffer in the flesh if it means being faithful to the Father. Choosing obedience over ease won’t always feel good, but it always leads to growth and deeper intimacy with God.

It’s better to feel the discomfort of denying your flesh than the regret of walking away from your calling. Every time we resist what’s easy in order to do what’s holy, we declare with our lives that Jesus is worth it. Don’t be afraid to let go of what’s temporary in order to hold tightly to what is eternal.

Prayer:

Jesus, help me choose faithfulness over comfort. When my flesh wants ease, give me strength to pursue obedience. Teach me to value Your will above my wants, and help me remember that You are worthy of every sacrifice. May my life bring You glory, even when it’s uncomfortable. Amen.

Reflection Questions:

1. What area of your life is God calling you to deny your flesh in order to be faithful?

2. How does remembering Christ’s suffering help you stay committed in your own struggles?

3. What temporary comfort might you need to release in order to grow deeper in obedience to God?
