Paul opens his letter with a heartfelt greeting and immediately praises God as the “Father of mercies and God of all comfort.” He shares how he and his companions suffered greatly in Asia but experienced God's deliverance and comfort. Paul reassures the Corinthians of his sincere love and integrity, addressing misunderstandings about why he had delayed his visit. This chapter introduces themes of suffering, comfort, and godly sincerity that flow throughout the letter.
